Belle Isle Conservatory

Description
Belle Isle in Detroit, originally known as Hog Island, was first settled by French explorers in the 1700’s. With approximately 900 acres, Belle Isle is the country’s largest city island park, exceeding the size of New York City’s Central Park. The Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory is the oldest continually-running conservatory in the United States. Designed by Albert Kahn, it opened in 1904 and sits along side the Belle Isle Aquarium, which is the oldest continually-operating aquarium in the United States.
