Detroit Strength and Power

Description
The Fist is an iconic sculpture in downtown Detroit that celebrates the contributions made by Detroit native Joe Louis. It was sculpted by Robert Graham and given as a gift to the City of Detroit by Sports Illustrated magazine. Joe Louis was heralded for many achievements, but his defeat of Germany's Max Schmeling in 1938 as Hitler was rising to power provided inspiration to many who feared a military battle that was to ultimately commence.
